Follow up on my NYR

Okay, I promised to blog about how much money I saved from January 21- February 21. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I could not believe how often I would catch myself before I would make an unnecessary purchase. I do it all the time without even thinking about it. What is wrong with me? I even embarrassed myself a couple of times telling the cashier I had changed my mind about an item. You know how they seem so put out when you do that? It drove me crazy.
Okay here is the moment of truth, drum roll please, do you have any guesses? I saved about $168. Can you believe it? That was only when I caught myself. I know I probably could add another $50 bucks to that easy that I did not catch.
It really made me stop and think about how as a nation we truly overspend. We get caught up in the "I want it now" or the "I just want it because I can" moment. I wonder what our national debt would look like if we stepped back and caught ourselves with over spending or spending on something not necessary? Where would our country be and what an example it would make to the rest of us. I bet if the government kept itself in check the average household debt would be dramatically lower if there was any debt at all. Just think about it I know I do.
I plan to continue this every month. I want to see how much I have not spent in 6 months and then at a year. I challenge everyone to do the same. It will really open your eyes. Good Luck.
