BYU Graduation

Sorry it has taken us so long to update our blog. We have had the pleasure of having Chris' family staying with us for about the last 9 days. They came to see Chris' little sister Samantha graduate from BYU. Chris' parents also celebrated no more tuition payments to BYU ever. Samantha is the last kid to graduate from BYU and they are looking forward to the extra money. Carl's brother Spencer and sister Thelma also graduated last weekend. We had a post graduation Jensen/Young BBQ at our house right after graduation on thursday. It was a blast.

Most of you have heard the controversy surrounding BYU graduation this year about VP Cheney speaking. The funny thing is the press blew it way out of proportion. There were only about 100-150 students out of 6500 that graduated this year that made a big fuss. Carl's sister Thelma was one of the organizers for the off campus ceremony where Ralph Nader gave his speach. Thelma was also not able to join our BBQ because she was asked to eat dinner with Ralph. This just makes me laugh. Carl hates my political opinion, but I very much enjoyed Cheney's speach. He did not speak at all of his political agenda but really uplifted the students and was even funny. His wife we found out, in his speach, is of pioneer descent and looks up to our culture and religion. I enjoyed his speach and would love to hear him again sometime. I must say the "star of the show" was President Hinckley. It was common knowledge around here that he was not going to be able to make graduation. When he walked in the crowd just went crazy. There was a 2min. standing ovation, it would of gone longer except for President Samuelsen just started speaking and we kinda had to stop. It was great. I have to say overall this was the best graduation I have ever been to. I was a little disappionted, so was everyone else, that Hinckley did not speak or at least say a little something but I guess I will get over it. Anyway, it was great and I am not afraid to say I like the Bush/Cheney presidency and hope there last year will be great. jamie

I heard his speech was pretty great. I don't even remember who spoke at my graduation.
