I DID IT!

So I signed up to run the Provo City 5k on April 5th. I needed to see how far I had come since my first 5k back in July and get a more recent race time to start my training for a half marathon. The day started out so crappy. It was freezing, windy, dark grey and the race was running really behind for the start. No pun intended. Once the race started I just knew this was going to be harder that I expected due to the freezing cold air I was inhailing. My lungs felt like they were going to catch on fire and explode from the cold air. I pushed on and after the 1st mile I saw my cute little family pulled over on the side of the road cheering me on. It was the cuttest thing I had ever seen. It really helped me push through the cold. This is the picture they got of me on that little encounter. I am about 1 mile into the 5k. Man I am so much shorter than everyone else. This Sucks. Here I am rounding Tabernacle Park to the finish line. And here I am after the race. I feel like I am going to throw up and my lungs are on fire. I ended up finishing in 31 minutes and 58 seconds. I say 32 minutes but the race officials would not let me add the 2 seconds to my time, so stupid. If I want to round up to make things easier I sould be able to, right? Runners, I guess, take their times seriously. I don't know. So sizing up to my last 5k last July I knocked about 6.5 minutes off my time. My goal was 10 minute miles but I ended up with 9.14 minute miles because this 5k was not 3.1 miles it was 3.5 miles. So I guess I beat my time by more than 6.5 minutes. I am so excited to train for the half marathon in August. I did end up with a really sore throat and coughed for 2 days after the race. Man that air was cold.

Hey, the beginners spot was where I was last august. You stick with it and it is amazing how the inches just melt away. I am so excited for you. Good luck.
