Turkey Day in Texas

As everyone knows we are proud Texans, me more than Chris, and we were able to spend 8 days in Texas over Thanksgiving break. Here is the start of our adventure waiting in the airport to board the plane.

Here Dane and Maggie are waiting on the plane in SLC for an hour until they have us switch planes due to some kind of leak. Cooper was not cooperating at all during this as you can imagine. But, let me tell you after all of our complications trying to get to Houston we arrived to beautiful weather. I love anything above 70 and for most of our week it was in the 80's. I loved being back in the humidity it just feels so good on your skin, in your lungs, no chapstick needed I was in heaven. On monday we headed down to the USS Texas battleship. This battleship was built in 1913 and served in both world wars. It was so huge. We spent awhile walking through and exploring the ship. Dane and Maggie had so much fun running around and climbing all over it was a great experience. Here is Dane pretending to shoot one of the guns. Chris and I could not believe how many guns were on this ship. We knew it was a battleship but it still takes you back just how many there are on the ship.We just had to get a picture of the kids sitting on ammo. Ahh, the memories.

After the USS Texas we headed across the street to the San Jacinto Monument were Texas won it's independence. The Monument was so beautiful and the detail was amazing. You can take an elevator to the top of the monument and look out over the shipping channel. I am sure the view is beautiful but we are cheap and did not want to spend $5 bucks a person just to ride the elevator. We figured the kids can do that for free at the mall. Maybe next time.

On Tuesday we headed up the the Galleria looking for a Dallas Mavericks shirt. I was so disappointed. We went to about 10 stores and no one had a Mavericks shirt. My favorite was when I went into Footlocker and asked for anything Dallas Mavericks the handsome black gentleman just replied " sorry mam but we are rockets fans here". I had to take the hint so I stopped looking. On the way home we ate lunch at Star Pizza, one of our favorites. After the pizza we played a great round of golf at the country club and enjoyed our free babysitting for the weekend by heading to the box office later that night to see The Martian Child. The film was great and we really enjoyed how the story developed. It was great and I recommend it to all.

Wednesday we enjoyed another round of golf with Chris dad and brother scott. We had a mini tournament that Max and I lost by 2 holes. We will get them next time. Later that afternoon we headed to the Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks basketball game.
Not a great picture but you get the idea. Chris was in heaven. I came back from getting some treats in the 3rd quarter and Chris had to let me know that his rockets were up by 14 points. I just said " it's only the 3rd quarter". With 2 minutes left in the game Chris realized my Dallas Mavericks were going to win the game. Of course, the Mavericks won.

Thursday we played golf, again. Then, of course, ate thanksgiving dinner and feel asleep to the Dallas Cowboys winning their game as is the tradition. Here is a picture of Maggie making her peanut candy turkey name cards. I think Cooper is the cutest turkey I have ever seen. We could not get him out of this pot it was hilarious. I guess you just have to know Cooper and how much he truely likes to get into just about everything.

On Friday we headed out shopping. We are not crazy so we waited until about 10am. Chris needed a new Astros shirt that he has to wait until Christmas day to wear. I don't think he knows that yet, oh well. We just did a little christmas shopping and met up with Chris' sister Carol and her husband Jimmy at Chipotle, which is so good. Later that evening we were able to hang out with Spencer and Kari, also Mike and Megan. It was so good to see everyone and catch up. Megan and Kari are both expecting babies in the late spring. Good Luck to them. It really made me realize how glad I was to not be pregnant, yuck. After eating some really great Chinease take out we headed to the box office again to see Dan in Real Life. I have to say I think this is the best film I have seen in a long time. The greatest thing about it is it was totally clean and enjoyable. Hard to come by these days. I recommend this to everyone. Go see Dane in Real Life right now.

Sorry for the long Blog but we had a blast and cannot wait for Christmas when we have the pleasure of having the Cooks stay with us for awhile. The Arntsen's will also be coming up and Marilyn will be getting married. December will be great. For all of those staying in Utah for New Years we will be having a bring your favorite Hors d'oeuvre Party. Details coming soon.

I played volleyball and basketball in high school. My senior year I was burnt out so I decided to quit and try out for the golf team. I made it and have been hooked on golf ever since. I love to play.
